2. GETTING STARTED

Updated August 2023

Getting into hockey with Bromsgrove Hockey Club is easy...

You can email the relevant Club Captain before attending your first session if you have any questions and so that we can pair you with a friendly peer on the day.

For Men's contact Steve Longbottom, for Women's contact Lauren O'Grady. Let them know your Full Name, Age and Playing Level/Experience and if you've previously been registered with another club in the last 18 months. See also our guidelines on transferring clubs below.

See our weekly training schedule for all Adults here.

We welcome people of all abilities. Novices to accomplished hockey players, both out field players and Goal Keepers are welcome.

Adults hockey is available to players from 13yrs, we have Junior sessions for U14s, and from 15+ most young people will train with one of our Adults teams based on their ability and experience.

If you are new to Bromsgrove Hockey Club you can benefit from a free trial period, so you can take part in a few training sessions to help you decide if you're ready to commit to becoming a fully-fledged member.

We have sticks available to borrow if you're just starting out. However we expect all Adults players to wear their own shinpads and gumshields for all training and games. We also have a limited number of club Goal Keeper kits available for Mens & Ladies.

For league matches, either BHC shorts/skorts or black shorts/skort would be worn. A white numbered playing top and white socks are worn for away games. A red numbered playing top and red socks must be worn for home games.

When you're ready, you can check out our club kit, available to purchase directly from our Birmingham-based kit supplier Gogna. IMPORTANT - You must be assigned a playing number by your Club Captain, contact Lauren or Steve to request yours.

Once you're regularly attending training we will ask you to sign-up to one of our membership packages.

So you can continue to take part in training or in order to Play Club Hockey with us.

The club operates predominantly using Pitchero.

Pitchero is an online platform that hosts our website and enables team management and communication with parents and players. It also allows you to set up payments for membership and access team-only information.

By clicking 'Join' on our homepage you are effectively registering with the club through Pitchero. A full guide to registering on Pitchhero for the first time is provided here.

Once registered you can also download the Pitchero Mobile Club App.

Important - All communication is via Pitchero, our web-based data information system.

This also includes photo and transport consent and key medical information. It is the responsibility of the consenting Parent/Guardian to ensure this is updated annually in case of emergency.

England Hockey's GMS Registration and Player Transfers

All players participating in Saturday League hockey must also register on England Hockeys Game Management System (GMS). More details can be found here.

If you have been previously registered with another club in the past 18 months, you may be required to complete a 'Player Transfer' so that we can assign you through GMS to Bromsgrove for matches.

Important - You may only be registered and play for one club at any time. The only exceptions are for Students who would be registered for BUCS hockey with their University/College and for Saturday League hockey with their selected 'home' club. Juniors may also in some cases be registered with Bromsgrove for Saturday league hockey and one other club, if also participating in County Hockey or NAGs.

At the moment, GMS still has bugs so Player Transfers must be requested manually by the Player, by emailing gms.support@englandhockey.co.uk to start the process.

The Player Transfer process requires your prior club to release you from obligations with them. (If you have match fees or subscriptions owing your old club may refuse transfer until all monies owed are cleared.)
